NHT Magazine is thrilled to announce its first sponsored rider Sophie Coles and her Super Cob Charlie.

Sophie and Charlie have regularly featured in NHT magazine - including celebrating their successes in the ‘Readers Results’ section. We have also ‘borrowed’ the odd photo (or two!) for our article features! Sophie has a natural ability for capturing the perfect moment - I must also mention that I suspect she has been passed this talent from her mum ‘Hannah Coles’; who is often behind some of the lovely shots featured on Sophie’s social media accounts. Hannah has been Sophie’s biggest support from day one and has captured Sophie and Charlie’s many adventures together. Sophie will be a regular feature during 2020…Sophie and Charlie have regularly featured in NHT magazine - including celebrating their successes in the ‘Readers Results’ section.  Sophie’s Story…

“At the age of 11 I started taking lessons at a local riding school where I fell in love with horses. At 13 I had my first loan pony Indy. She was a 13hh fell pony with a huge personality but unfortunately I quickly outgrew her and that’s when my parents decided to buy me my first horse Charlie.

“I am an active riding club member competing in all disciplines and I have qualified for several championships at junior level with the British Riding Club and the National Horseware Championships. At 18, I now compete at senior level and continue to love every minute of it.

“There have been many highlights over the past few years, but I would say that my favourite would be when I took part in the BRC horse trial qualifier at Ely Eventing Centre where I qualified for the championship at Swalcliffe. We did not have the best dressage test but we completed a double clear, within the time to finish first on our dressage score.

“The best advice I can give is to not compare your horse to somebody else’s, it is more rewarding to try and improve on your last performance rather than try and compete against some flashy mover in the warm up! Don’t be disheartened by negative comments and go out and give it a go whilst having fun.

“My goal for the future is to try and improve on our dressage, Charlie is always a little too eager and we both get quite tense going into a test so we need to learn to relax more and enjoy it!

“Finally, a little about my boy Clady Lad aka Charlie. He is a 12 year old, 15.2hh coloured cob cross gelding. He came over from Ireland 4 years ago and his history is unknown but it became quite clear that he was very green. It took many months to gain his trust but I took him to lots of local events where we slowly improved and we haven’t looked back since. We particularly enjoy cross country where he excels. The autumn season hasn’t gone as planned due to the amount of rain we’ve had lately but we are looking forward to the start of 2020 where we have lots more events planned.

“I cannot wait to share with you, mine and charlie’s adventures during 2020.
