Equimat stable mats provide excellent support for horses' hooves and limbs. The anti-slip surface helps horses to get up and down in safety and comfort - promoting rest, relaxation and recuperation.

A stable fitted with floor mats is easier to manage. You can reduce the amount of bedding by 30-50%, save time mucking out and reduce the size of your muck heaps. Once the daily chores are out the way, you can spend more time riding.
Equimat’s flagship products are the green, interlocking, lightweight Equimat Stable Mat and the solid rubber Equimat Black Mat. Both products offer comfort, protection and insulation.

Green Equimat vs Black EquimatGreen Equimat vs Black Equimat

1. Material:

The green Equimats are made from a unique blend of rubber and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). This gives them the durability of a rubber mat and the lightness of an EVA mat. We are the only company that makes stable matting using this concept and this compound. The black Equimats are made from high quality Indian rubber. This makes them heavyweight, durable and hard-wearing.

2. Interlocking Edges:

The interlocking edges on the green mats creates a non-porous seal once they are laid, which makes it difficult for urine to seep through. The black mats have straight edges. When you lay your mats make sure you go right up to the walls to make it harder for urine to seep through.

3. Weight:

The green mats are very lightweight at 16kg (20mm) and 21kg (28mm). The black mats are heavyweight, weighing in at 45kg.

Choosing The Right Mat

It is essential that you put your horse or pony on the right type of stable mat so your mats will last for years. We take into account the size and weight of your horse when recommending mats.
For ponies and small horses up to 16hh/600kg - choose the 20mm Equimat Stable Mat.
For larger, heavier or box-walking horses     - choose the 28mm Equimat Stable Mat.
The 17mm Equimat Black Mat is suitable for horses of any size.

Ask For A Sample
It is advisable to ask for a product sample from a matting company so you can compare and contrast the quality.

Avoid EVA-only Mats

The Equimat team receive a few calls every month from horse owners who have bought cheap EVA mats off the Internet which have disintegrated after a few months. We wouldn’t recommend putting a horse on an EVA-only mat. They might be lightweight but they offer limited durability and protection for your horse. If you are on a budget, the 17mm Equimat Black Mat is a better long-term investment.

Made To Last

Equimat customers have written product reviews and recommendations over the years and allowed us to publish them on our product reviews webpage for others to read. You can read their comments about their mats lasting 12, 15 even 20 years, the ease of travelling with the lightweight ones, and the ease of lifting and moving them from one stable to another.

Stable Matting vs BeddingStable Matting vs Bedding

Stable floor mats are not a substitute for bedding. We recommend that you use them in combination with a good layer of bedding material.

It's a good idea to use a full bed for the first few weeks after installation of stable floor mats. You can reduce your bedding as much as you feel you can (by about 30-50%) without creating a grooming issue.

Less bedding not only saves you money, it means less dust, so by fitting stable mats you are creating a healthier environment for your horse.

Fitting Your Mats
We have produced some guides to fitting stable floor mats and wall mats on our customer service webpage. If you need any advice please contact the Equimat team.

Lifting Your Mats
We advise that you lift your green stable floor mats a couple of times a year to hose them down underneath. It’s a good idea to number them so you can put them back in the same order. The black mats don’t interlock so you might need to lift and clean them more often.

Cleaning Your Mats
A powerful multi-purpose outdoor cleaner (like Jeyes Fluid) is perfect to clean your stable with because it’s anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
