Northamptonshire Young Rider Academy (NYRA) is a brand new training platform for young riders aged between 12 - 28.

The unique academy aims to bring together Riders, Coaches and other Equine Professionals to provide a community where 'Teamwork' is at the very heart. The academy's role is to create a network of individuals who are dedicated to the success of our budding young riders regardless of their chosen discipline, current level or their individual goals.

What is the academy's objectives?

To create a platform and community which bridges the gap between our junior riders and young adults in the equestrian sport.

To explore lesser known disciplines within our sport such as Polo, Polocrosse, Racing, Tetrathlon, Endurance, Mounted Games, Horseball, Western and Modern Pentathlon, as well as the main three disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing.

To support everyone by creating a team of dedicated and invested Coaches, Physiotherapists, Vets, Farriers and other Equine professionals who have a passion for helping our local young riders thrive and succeed.
Sophie Mckinnon-Wood, founder of NYRA told NHT Magazine “Between us, our team have come from a range of backgrounds and we have a wealth of knowledge gained from within the industry. Now is the time to share that knowledge and inspire the younger generation and to build the foundations for our riders, whether they compete locally, nationally or internationally.

“We hope to work alongside local Pony Clubs, Riding Clubs and Affiliated Teams to provide clear pathways for young riders. Whether you ride purely for pleasure, wish to work in the industry or are looking at reaching the very top in your ridden career; We are here to help you every single step of the way!

“Members of NYRA will have exclusive access to reduced price training sessions with our coaches, discounted services from our sponsors and reduced price entry to our talks and demonstrations. There will also be opportunities to join in on taster sessions for different disciplines, social events and not to forget a local support network that is just a click away.

“In addition to our standard annual membership we also offer a Rider Plus+ Programme. Riders who sign up to this additional programme will receive a personalised portfolio which is tailor made and will include a detailed overview from our professionals. This will include an overall assessment, advice, homework, future plans and ideas for further training. We will then collate these over time into one easy document which will be updated each month as the horse and rider progress through the year.”
